Our Mission
LATIS Learning Experience (LX) provides instructional design and academic technology services to the College of Liberal Arts teaching community. We help instructors create student-centered, intentionally designed learning opportunities that set students up for success. We believe digital environments designed with learners in mind can anticipate barriers to student engagement and aid in selecting the most usable, accessible, and relevant learning technologies. We can help anyone teaching any class, whether you teach online, in person, or somewhere in between.
Our Approach
Learning Experience (LX) is both the name of our team and the foundation of our approach to course design. Rooted in human-centered design principles, LX Design focuses on how learners think, feel, and act within learning environments. We use these insights to shape more effective and engaging learning experiences. In practice, this means designing tools, activities, and materials that help students develop the skills, attitudes, and habits necessary for success.
LX Framework
The LATIS Learning Experience Framework divides instructional design into three interrelated elements:
- Site design improves the usability of academic technologies
- Curriculum design clarifies and communicates instructional goals
- Interaction design provides opportunities for engagement between content, peers, and facilitators
Each area of design ensures an inclusive and engaging learning experience. Design choices should consider the following 5 core concepts:
- Accessibility
- Communication
- Consistency
- Motivation
- Organization
